Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any other questions that are not below please do contact us so we can add them to the list.  Thank you.

Q. TI seems to be more about technique and efficiency than speed?

A. It is a very wide spread myth that Total Immersion is only about teaching technique – however what we will ultimately be teaching you will be to swim like Michael Phelps and Rebecca Addlington – two of the fastest swimmers in the world.

Slowing Things Down and Speeding Them Up. Critics of Total Immersion have sometimes claimed that it teaches swimmers how to swim beautifully and elegantly, but not quickly. But that is because they mistakenly believe that slowing things down is the end of the Total Immersion teaching process, whereas in reality it is only the first part of that process. After slowing things down to perfect your technique, you then want to gradually speed things up, while still practicing flawless technique, until you reach race speeds.

Q. Can I alternate between Total Immersion Coaching and ASA coaching?

A. No. Conventional coaching methods do not agree with the Total Immersion Methodology and therefore alternating between the two methods will confuse you and you will not see the results you will be hoping for.

Q. What do I need to bring?

A. A swimsuit, (gentlemen please bring Speedo type swimsuit – not Board shorts), goggles, a towel and a hat. Please also ensure you have not applied any body lotions or oils on the day of your swim.

Q. What if I have a water phobia?

A. SwimSolutionS coaches anyone – if you have a water phobia we will spend as much time as you need to feel comfortable in the water.

Q. Do I have to practise in between sessions?

A. Yes, we are trying to get new movement patterns into your muscle memory – the more you do “good” practise the quicker this will happen.

Q. When should I arrive for my session?

A. Arrive about 10 minutes before your lesson so you have enough time to change and shower.
